Consultation Fees & Rebates
At Cairns Trauma & Clinical Psychology, we offer a cost-effective service to our clients with highly competitive fees. Our charges are much lower than the current rates recommended by the Australian Psychological Society (APS), which suggests clients pay $260 per hour to see a psychologist. We provide both face-to-face and telehealth sessions. Our fee structure is outlined below:
Individual Therapy
With Clinical Psychologist
$230 - 50 min session - Medicare Rebate: $136.25* with Mental Health Care Plan referral
With Psychologist
$190 - 50 min session - Medicare Rebate: $92.90* with Mental Health Care Plan referral
With Social Worker (Mental Health Accredited)
$190 - 50 min session - Medicare Rebate: $82.90* with Mental Health Care Plan referral
With Provisional Psychologist
$120 - Initial session (50 mins), No need for referral/ No Medicare rebate
Couples & Family Therapy and Clinical Assessment
With Clinical Psychologist/Psychologist/Social Worker
$250 - Initial session (60 mins)
To receive Medicare Rebates for seeing a Psychologist or an Accredited Mental Health Social Worker, clients must obtain a referral and Mental Health Treatment Plan from a GP, psychiatrist, or paediatrician. This initiative, funded by the government, aims to provide significant assistance to individuals who are struggling with various mental health conditions such as anxiety disorders (including phobias, post-traumatic stress disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder, and panic disorder), depression, sexual disorder, alcohol or substance use disorder, sleep problems, bipolar disorder, psychotic disorder, bereavement disorder, or adjustment disorder. For more information about Medicare rebates for consultations, please click here. However, please note that Medicare does not currently offer rebates for couples therapy, cognitive assessments, and some other specific situations.
In some cases, the clinician may consider reduced fee or Bulk Billed services.
Specific assessment, letters, and reports incur extra expenses to the above quoted fees – your psychologist/social worker will discuss this with you.
Other Rebates - Private health funds, WorkCover QLD, DVA, and other Government initiatives each offer different reimbursements. Please note that you cannot use both Medicare and your private health cover for sessions; you will need to decide which to use.
After Hours Surcharge - Special appointments are available outside of office hours and will incur a $20 after hours surcharge. The surcharge applies to appointments booked from 5PM or later on weekdays, and all weekend appointments.
Cancellation Policy
Our psychologists and social workers will dedicate an entire hour for every appointment that you book, ensuring that you receive the full attention you need. In the event that you need to reschedule or cancel a session, we kindly request that you provide us with at least 48 hours' notice so that we can offer the appointment to those on our waitlist. Please note that if you fail to attend your appointment without notifying us, you will be charged the full fee. Additionally, for cancellations made with less than 24 hours' notice, a fee of $100 will be charged. We understand that sometimes you may be unable to keep an appointment because of sudden illness or an unexpected personal emergency. If this happens to you, please contact us as soon as possible to explain the situation. You may call our office at any time, even after hours, as we do have an answering service that allows you to leave a message. Reasonable circumstances will not incur cancellation fees.
